Addictions Assessment Counselor
Hi there! I’m Sofie, and I am a newly certified addictions counselor. I have 4 years of experience in mixed healthcare settings, as well as completion of the Addictions Counseling program at Portland Community College. I am continuing my education at Portland State University in Human Services and Public Health. I started my professional journey in addiction and mental health treatment and have worked for non-profits and hospitals along the way. My experience in these varying environments has solidified my core belief that healthcare should be integrative, person-centered, and trauma-informed.
My journey to addiction counseling began with my own need and desire to feel understood and seen. It is important to me to view people as who they are, as their whole personhood, and not just what they’ve been through or diagnosed with. Everyone deserves the chance to transform their lives. My journey also came from my passion for transformative justice and community healing. We heal better as individuals when we heal as a community. As you begin or continue your new path, I want to empower you to achieve the life you want. I aim to be curious of your goals and values while supporting your autonomy to provide individualized care.
Originally from Miami, FL, I moved to Portland in 2017 to seek a tranquil and nature-filled life. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our cat and dog, camping in a forest, biking throughout the city, traveling with family, photographing nature and landscapes, crafting, and watching movies.
