On Renaming the Donor Wall:

At Quest Center, we have heard the feedback of our community members regarding our donor wall, and we want to honor and thoughtfully reconsider the language we use. As a result, we have decided to change the name from "Wall of Allies"  to “Donor Wall.” We understand that allyship is a complex and multifaceted concept that cannot be fully captured by a single term. We want to be intentional about our language choices and the messages they may or may not convey and are sorry for any hurt in the utilization of wording in the donor wall.

We recognize that financial support alone does not make someone an ally, and honest allyship is not transactional. Being an ally varies from context to context and is a nuanced and evolving behavior that requires ongoing learning, reflection, and action. By changing the name of our donor wall, we hope to encourage a deeper and more thoughtful engagement with the concept of allyship and to acknowledge the complexity of this important work; we stand with folx who have voiced that the term "ally" be used with more judiciousness and specificity. Our aim is always to incite meaningful change and repair and heal as a community when we can. We understand that language is a vital component of creating an inclusive and respectful environment, and we want to ensure that our donor wall accurately reflects our values and commitment to the communities we serve and the impact that language has. We appreciate the positive attribution and feedback and voices of our community members.
