PARIS IS BURNING

"PARIS IS BURNING!" - at The Hollywood Theater - March 18th, 3pm

Hollywood Theatre's Feminist March festival is teaming up with Quest Center to have some fun! Quest is delighted to invite all our community members to a special movie screening benefit this Saturday, March 18th at 3 pm at the Hollywood Theater. The featured film is the iconic documentary, "Paris is Burning", directed by Jennie Livingston.

The critically acclaimed film chronicles the vibrant ball culture of New York City's LGBTQIA+ community in the 1980s. The film explores the lives of Black and Latinx drag queens and transgender women, highlighting the creativity, resilience, and determination of marginalized individuals who created their own world of beauty and art in the face of adversity.

Before the movie, you'll have the opportunity to meet and snap photos with the fabulous Poison Waters, Portland's beloved drag queen, who will also introduce the film. Tickets are available for purchase online or at the box office. This is an opportunity to celebrate Quest Center’s successful move to our new and bigger location while also supporting a great cause.

All ticket sale proceeds will go toward raising funds for Quest Center services.

*Based on Quest's staff survey, licensing issues, previous showing schedules, Netflix and Hulu ownership, the final decision was made to screen "Paris is Burning" as a benefit screening open to the public. We realize there are still problematic qualms that have arisen with the making of this documentary, but we hope that these issues can be contextualized as welcomed criticisms and reignite conversations (that although have been previously acknowledged), still exist and necessitate ongoing investigation. We are hoping for the screening of the film celebrates Quest Center's living mission, the many intersecting communities within our community, while also bringing to light the queer community's past and present work in challenging and disrupting oppressive-isms that exist within a colonized self and the imagining/making of new communities and structures.
